RDU Terminal 2 Cleared After Sprinkler Broken From Airport Tug

RALEIGH - Passengers and workers in Raleigh-Durham International Airport's Terminal 2 had to evacuate briefly Monday night after an accident that broke a sprinkler pipe beneath the baggage-claim area set off the building's fire alarm.
RDU spokesman Andrew Sawyer said a tractor, known as a tug, that pulls baggage carts between planes and the baggage-claim operation hit a sprinkler head, which broke the pipe and started water flowing. That is one thing that triggers the alarm.
It happened about 8 p.m., and people were outside for a short time.
Sawyer said covers on the baggage carts prevented damage to luggage.
